Why this matters

Four single-heads and one four-head are not the same shop.

A synchronized four-head is efficient when four or more identical pieces run together. Four independent single-head machines can instead run four unrelated orders. That flexibility matters when order sizes are small, personalization is common or due dates conflict.

This calculator isolates that batch-utilization effect. It does not pretend to price floor space, maintenance, networking, service calls or operator walking distance. Those remain purchase criteria after the throughput comparison.

When repeated same-design batches are consistently large enough to load most or all heads and the operator can feed them.

When can independent single-heads win?

When the order queue contains many small or different jobs, because each machine can work on a separate design instead of waiting for enough identical pieces.

What about downtime?

Independent machines provide redundancy; a synchronized multi-head concentrates more capacity in one chassis. This calculator intentionally does not assign a universal downtime probability.
