The decision this scenario is actually testing
The important distinction is flexibility. Two independent heads can run different jobs at the same time; a synchronized two-head is strongest when both heads can stay on the same design. If your “1,000 shirts” are twenty unrelated 50-piece jobs, architecture matters more than nominal head count.
Before using this to buy equipment
- Time several real jobs and replace the minutes-per-1,000-stitches assumption.
- Measure hooping/loading time separately from sewing time.
- Use the actual same-design batch size, not invoice quantity.
- Add downtime, maintenance and staffing constraints that matter in your shop.
- Run the shortest real customer deadline, not only the average week.
Questions this example should answer
Is a two-head always better than two single-heads?
No. At large same-design batches their modeled stitching capacity can be similar, but independent machines preserve job flexibility and redundancy while a synchronized machine can simplify repeated production.
Should I size from monthly volume?
Use monthly volume only as a starting point. Purchase decisions should be stress-tested against the busiest realistic week and the shortest committed deadline.
